High on the wish list of bathroom renovators [and renters] is the replacement of tired or dated ceramic tiles and cabinetry. But removing and replacing tiles is a costly exercise and often inconvenient. A new generation tile and laminate paint delivers the option of re-colouring ceramic tiles, even in the shower stall, in just three easy steps, with a high gloss, hard wearing finish. The paint, available in 54 colours plus crisp white, requires no primer and only two top coats. The net result is that it takes less time and costs less money than the alternatives.

Application is simple and success can be achieved by the most amateur DIYer. The tiles, or laminate, should first be cleaned with The Flood Company’s Tile & Laminate Cleaner to remove any grime, grease or soap residues. The surface should then be thoroughly scuffed using 180-220 sandpaper – this provides a key for the paint to adhere to. All dust should be removed with clean water while any mould that is present can be removed with Flood Mould Action. After drying the surface the Flood Tile & Laminate Paint can be applied either by brush or, for larger areas, by roller. The paint will be touch-dry in 4-hours and after 24-hours the surface should be lightly sanded with 600-grit sandpaper and a second coat applied. Maximum hardness is achieved after three days.

The formula for the Tile & Laminate paint combines anti-mould inhibitors with the latest polymer technology to ensure excellent adherence to smooth, high gloss surfaces. So this paint will continue giving in terms of resistance to mould in the shower and other wet areas plus in-built resistance to scuffing and water. With a colour palette of 54 the range lends itself to adding eye-catching detail to your bathroom such as border and feature tiles with colour-matched laminate or melamine cabinetry.

Flood Tile & Laminate Paint is available nationally from Masters Hardware, Mitre 10, Paint Place and 3D, plus other paint specialists. The paint retails for $45.95 a litre or $82.95 for two litres. There is also a very handy Tile & Laminate Paint Kit for $79.95 comprising: one litre of paint in your colour choice; 750ml Tile & Laminate Cleaner; paint roller, tray and sanding block.
