Italian kitchen appliance specialist, Smeg, has re-entered the laundry market with a new generation of front loaders that delivers high energy and water efficiency, sophisticated wash programmes and low-noise operation. The new models offer the choice of 8kg and 7.5kg capacity along with 20 wash programmes, with a mix of cycles suitable for heavily soiled, woollens, denim, cotton, delicates and synthetics. Fifteen of these programmes can be used with cold water. Both the SAW816 (8kg, $1590) and the SAW7514 (7.5kg, $1390) washers include programmes specifically designed for shirts and blankets – plus a cycle that will clean the drum. Additional options include anti-crease, quick wash, extra rinse, pre-wash and rinse and hold. Spin speeds range from 800rpm to 1200rpm and 1400rpm – with the 8kg model offering 1600rpm as well.
These two new models, with a 4.5 star WELS rating consume varying amounts of water depending on the load and type of wash: full load of cottons – 70 litres/wash; Eco cottons load – 65 litres/wash; or synthetics -56 litres/wash. They feature three-phase brushless motors which are low maintenance, energy efficient and exceptionally quiet. They also carry noise suppression filters, a suspended polycarbonate drum and ceramic wool insulation. Other convenience factors are the extra wide door opening, out-of-balance correction, five-stage water safety technology, delay start selection, child lock and an optional stacking kit for use with clothes dryers.
