House hunters are searching for three bedrooms, a garage and a pool above all other property features, according to recent research. Homebuilder Henley Homes surveyed 3000 Australians to find what a dream home needs, revealing space for the family is the top priority: 42% of respondents said a home must have at least three bedrooms; while 39% prioritise a garage or carport. Other top-ranking features include an open plan design [36%]; a separate laundry [34%]; and two more bathrooms [34%]. Outdoors, an alfresco or barbecue area is essential for 33% of buyers; while 31% have a pool on their wish-list; followed by a hardwood deck [30%]. Interestingly, people are divided when it comes to the garden with 29% saying they want a big backyard; while 22% say they want a low-maintenance outside space or none at all.
Multiple toilets are definitely more popular, especially for parents having their own ensuite connected to the master bedroom. Ensuites are essential. In most cases you have an ensuite and then many people want a spare toilet. Within the past 10 years block sizes have decreased influencing what people want. More people are looking for something compact. Double lockup garages are popular because people use them for storage and for doing hobbies. It has become a versatile area. You may park in front of the garage and keep your bike or boat in there. While individual tastes differ, the experts overwhelming agree that space for the family is essential and should be top of mind during the design or home renovating phase, to make your house a dream home.
